Cleaning your Medela equipment at home.
To remove dirt and dust, Kill bacteria & Micro-organisms…
Boiling
Place parts in a saucepan of sufficient capacity, fill with cold water until the parts are well covered, heat it up and boil for 3 minutes (Please make sure all components are well covered with water to prevent damage to components).
Remove from stove and drain the water off. Allow parts to cool and air-dry on a clean towel.
Microwave Steam
Use Microwave safe sterilising bags - follow instructions.
Dishwasher
Standard Programme > 58°C
Guidelines from Medela for cleaning your breastfeeding equipment at home.
Disassemble all parts prior to cleaning and sterilisation
i.e. Remove valve head from the Breastshield, etc.
Prior to first use / once daily
Disassemble, wash and rinse all parts that come in contact with breastmilk (except motor units).
· Clean the motor unit of Mini Electric, Mini Electric Plus, etc. and the handle of the Harmony with a damp cloth only.
Alternatively, the disassembled parts (except motor units) can be washed in a dishwasher. After each use
Disassemble and rinse all parts that come in contact with the breastmilk with cold water, wash in warm soapy water, rinse with clear water and allow to air-dry on a clean towel.
Microwave Sterilisation
Parts which come in contact with the expressed breastmilk can be microwave sterilised: Breastshield, Bottle, Valve and Membrane (to microwave, take them apart and fully cover them with water). Please follow the instructions of the manufacturer.
Caution: Do not microwave all other components (e.g. motor unit, handle, piston cylinder etc.) as these parts can melt or be deformed
